Mariët Brandts graduated as a Social Educational Assistant in 2009. In 2012, she completed a master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology: Multiculturalism in Comparative Perspective. Her graduation research focused on rural-urban migration in Suriname.
She has been teaching (mostly first-year) students of the Social Work degree programme since 2014. Within the research group, she conducted research into the interplay between formal and informal care for people with dementia and non-congenital brain injury.
