Martin van Dijkhuizen is a lecturer for the bachelor’s degree programme Built Environment and researcher for the Research Group Building Future Cities. His research and teaching focus on optimising the construction process.
According to Martin, the construction process can be more efficient. In fact, many construction projects have budget overruns or late completion. Some of the traffic in cities can be attributed to construction activities. Moreover, added value per working hour in the construction industry is much lower than in the manufacturing industry.
Fields of expertise
- Construction Management
- Labour productivity
- System dynamics
Innovating the construction process is the central theme of Martin's teaching and research. For example, he and his students study how off-site construction can save time, costs, transport, and emissions. Can off-site construction improve labour productivity and working conditions?
