Medication guidance by patient associations

Hands with tray with medication
Patient associations and foundations can provide their members/followers with medication information and guidance that can help them, for example, in the correct use and storage of medication. In this project, we explored what information and guidance associations offer and what patients’ needs are in this regard.

Objective

We explored what information and support are offered by associations, how they are provided, and what the patients’ needs are.

Results

Board members of 60 associations and 4495 panel members completed the questionnaires. Information about and assistance with medication use are the most commonly offered. Patients desire more information about discussing medication with health care professional find video instructions about medication helpful.

Duration

01 November 2024 - 01 July 2025

Approach

We sent a questionnaire to 147 associations, asking about their information and guidance. Additionally, questionnaires were sent to more than 20,000 individuals from a patient panel of ‘AMP Research & Advice in Healthcare’ who regularly visit the pharmacy to collect medication.

Collaboration with other parties

For this project we worked together with AMP Onderzoek & advies in de zorg and with ex Pharmacology students Denise van Heest and Laura van Rooij,
