Supporting Responsible Human-AI Cooperation for First Responders

First responders work in complex, dynamic, and unpredictable environments. The integration of increasingly advanced sensor and artificial intelligence technology affects the work processes and decision-making of first responders and leads to new challenges regarding optimal and responsible human-AI cooperation.

The goal of this research is to determine requirements for collaborative decision-support and to develop a corresponding framework of first responder-AI cooperation to advance the building of shared situation awareness and team performance during incident control in complex and dynamic situations, while taking underlying values into account.

The following results are expected:

Requirements (based on values and context factors) that should be considered for the design, implementation, and deployment of responsible collaborative decision-support of first responder teams in complex and dynamic environments
Framework for collaborative decision-support to advance building of shared SA and team performance, while taking underlying values into account
Applied methods and tools for the evaluation of first responder-AI cooperation in complex and dynamic environments

Stakeholders are closely involved in the design process. This creates a better understanding of the problem, interests of different stakeholder groups are better taken into account and it promotes collaboration. In addition, involving stakeholders from the (FR) organizations ensures an increasing awareness and knowledge about AI technology within the organization.
