Marjolein is an experienced lecturer in the Dutch minor Mindful Communication, where she teaches courses such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Non-Violent Communication. Marjolein is also HU’s confidential advisor, providing trusted support and guidance for staff and students. In addition, she is a coach for Honours students in the Health domain.
Biography
Marjolein is a lecturer in the field of communication, ethics and mindfulness. She is the coordinator of the Dutch minor Mindful Communication. She has been working at HU since 2009.
She obtained her Masters in Italian language and literature at Utrecht University. She studied for one year at the Università di Bologna, Italy. Her Masters thesis was on autobiographies of Italian women in the 20th century.
Marjolein began her career at Utrecht University as a lecturer and coordinator in the Department of Gender studies and the Centre of Expertise on Gender, Ethnicity and Multiculturality. She then joined Oxfam Novib as a Diversity Officer but the attraction of higher education called her back to lecture at both PABO Domstad and HU Institute of Paramedical Studies. She has expertise in intercultural and nonviolent communication, motivational interviewing, coaching and Ethics in healthcare.
For 30 years, Marjolein has been a devoted zen practitioner, which brought her to the minor Mindful Communication. She has pursued a post-academic program in Mindfulness Training and is a registered Mindfulness trainer.
She has worked as a mediator and is a registered confidential counselor.
