Victoria Barcala

Researcher

Victoria Barcala (born in 1991) has been working as a senior researcher within the FEI Lectorate since June 2024. She is actively involved in research projects focusing on financing the sustainability transition.  

Victoria has a strong technical and academic background. She obtained her civil engineering degree in 2015 and was awarded a scholarship supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to pursue a master's degree at IHE Delft. Following this, she engaged in various consultancy projects for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and EIA consultancy in Uruguay. In 2019, she returned to the Netherlands to embark on her Ph.D. journey, collaborating between the research institute Deltares and Utrecht University as part of the P-TRAP project (H2020 MSC-ITN). Her dissertation focused on how to improve the management of drained agricultural areas to retain iron-associated phosphorus. Upon completing her Ph.D., she gained experience as a consultant at TAUW for one and a half years before starting her current role at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
