A promising transition between primary and secondary education

Inequality in education is a major social challenge. Some young people never get the chance to develop their talents. One of the determining moments for these development opportunities is the transition from primary education (PO) to secondary education (VO). Therefore, in this research we look, together with professionals in the educational field in Amersfoort, at what is needed to make a difference during that 'big crossing' and to ensure that all children have equal opportunities to develop their talent.

Objective

We design practical building blocks for professionals from primary and secondary education who work (together) on the transition to first grade. These building blocks should help ensure that young people who complete primary school end up where they can optimally develop their talent, and that they do well at their new school.

Results

By using the experience and knowledge of executive professionals and children and parents themselves in the entire research process, we develop building blocks that are not only scientifically substantiated, but also useful in daily practice.

Duration

01 September 2023 - 31 July 2024

Approach

In a 'Community of Practice' with professionals, we design a number of building blocks based on our practical experience and knowledge, input from our network and current scientific knowledge. We test these in practice, with parents, students and colleagues at various schools, so that we can refine the best-working designs into useful building blocks for primary and secondary education throughout Amersfoort.
