Foundation models in practice

We gain knowledge about organizations’ considerations when building on Foundation Models. This knowledge can help other organizations to address the right questions in time, and hence to create valuable applications based on Foundation Models.

Objective

By investigating the choices organizations make, we gain knowledge about the power of this type of AI models for organizations, but also about the risks and challenges they involve.

Results

In the project, we developed a set of guidelines “Building on Foundation Models”, consisting of a poster and an explanation (both in Dutch). In these guidelines, we explain the organizations’ considerations and concerns when developing applications based on Foundation Models.

In a proposed new research project, we delve deeper into how end users can maintain control over the results that Foundation Models produce – one of the biggest challenges we identified in the project.

Duration

01 September 2023 - 31 December 2024

Approach

During the project, each participating media organization has developed an organization-specific application based on a foundation model. Through interviews and focus groups, these development projects have been accurately monitored to describe and analyze the choices that organizations made. The questions that we used in these interviews, are discussed in this paper.

About the funding
