Future scenarios for journalism education

How do you train for a field that is changing so quickly under the influence of economic, technological and social developments? That is the starting point of the scenario planning project with which we draw up radical, coherent, but also plausible scenarios for the future of journalism education.

Objective

The aim of this research is not to predict the future, but to give direction to the debate about education in journalism and professionalization in journalism (lifelong learning).

Results

The result of the project is a matrix with two axes on which four different scenarios have been worked out.

Duration

01 January 2021 - 30 July 2022

Approach

For this project, 50 experts were consulted who are at the intersection of journalism and education. In various rounds they have determined which certain and uncertain trends are at play, on the basis of which the axes are composed.
