Maaike Severijnen is doing her PhD at the Quality Journalism in Digital Transition research group on developing a journalistic attitude in times of technological disruption. With her research, she wants to contribute to improving journalism education in a broad sense (from vocational, higher education, post-initial to internal media training).
She also works as an educational developer, assessment expert and graduation coach at the School of Journalism Utrecht. She started working there after more than 20 years as a freelance journalist for various (trade) magazines and newspapers. She also worked for educational publishers and as a freelance journalism lecturer/trainer.
Since 2019, she has also been working as a researcher for the research group Quality Journalism in Digital Transition. There, she focuses on innovation in journalism education: how do you train students for a sector that is so subject to change? She previously conducted research into number anxiety among journalism students and conducted a scenario study into the future of journalism education.
