Pebbles

Paediatric physiotherapists monitor babies where there are concerns about motor development. Early intervention focuses on supporting parents in equal partnership. Paediatric physiotherapists encounter a diversity of ideas and beliefs about development (Parental Beliefs) that form the basis of parental care taking practices. It is important that paediatric physiotherapists have insight into Parental Beliefs.

Objective

In the PEBBLES project, parents, paediatric physiotherapists and co-designers jointly developed tools that map Parental Beliefs & Practices to paediatric physiotherapy practice.

Results

A toolbox enabling paediatric physiotherapists to map Parental Beliefs and Practices that also supports shared decision making.

New knowledge about Parental Beliefs, Practices and Professional Beliefs of pediatric physiotherapist and their interactions.

New knowledge about the development of design skills, providing a blueprint for in-service training on this topic.

Duration

31 August 2022 - 30 June 2025

Approach

The toolbox is developed iteratively together with co-designers, paediatric physiotherapists, parents and researchers. The six participating practices act as ‘living labs’ where the tools can be tested. Besides paying sufficient attention to the impact of the innovations on parents and paediatric physiotherapists, the project gives paediatric physiotherapists the opportunity to develop design skills.
