Dr. Imke Suir received her PhD in May 2023 with her dissertation ‘Step by Step: Gross Motor Trajectories of Very Preterm Infants Until Reaching the Milestone of Independent Walking.’ Imke studied Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen. After completing the accelerated Physiotherapy program in Utrecht, she went on to study Pediatric Physiotherapy and developed as a pediatric physiotherapist in both primary care and rehabilitation.
The combination of movement scientist and paediatric physiotherapist led her to work as a junior researcher in the GODIVA project in 2014. In 2016, Imke received an NWO teacher grant for her PhD project GODIVA_PIT. Besides her research, Imke has been teaching in the minors ‘Child & Motor Development’ and ‘Child in Motion’ since 2014. She also teaches in the OZA course (developmental research with the AIMS).
The combination of conducting research and teaching allows Imke to involve bachelor and master students in her research. Additionally, students can earn stars within the research through the Honors program, where they can profile themselves.
