Afsoon Qutbyar studied Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam. After obtaining her master's degree, she worked as a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). She subsequently decided to start a doctoral programme at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
Her doctoral supervisor is Professor Lex van Teeffelen, within the Research group Financial-Economic Advice in Innovation (FAI). Afsoon officially became a PhD candidate in Applied Economic Sciences at the University of Antwerp (UA) in 2017. Her doctoral research concerns the growth and governance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).
The practical aim of this research is to develop an instrument with which SME entrepreneurs can quickly assess what is functioning well within the company and which elements require further attention to successfully complete a growth phase, thereby guaranteeing the company's survival.
