Camila Melícia Valgas is a PhD candidate at the Quality Journalism in Digital Transition research group. Her doctoral research explores how immigrants in the Netherlands consume news and the impact of this consumption on their cultural adaptation.
Camila's research interests lie in exploring the evolving relationship between journalism and diverse audience groups within society. Prior to her PhD, she worked on several research projects at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. Her work included studying the relationship of younger audiences with news media and the implications of artificial intelligence for journalism. She also developed educational materials to enhance students' understanding of AI and its applications in journalism.
Camila graduated in 2017 from the bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil). In 2021, she completed her master's degree in Media Studies with a specialization in Digital Culture at Maastricht University with the scholarship Orange Tulip.
