Mirjam van Tilborg PhD, optometrist, has been astonished about the quality of care for people with severe dry eyes since 1995. She therefore specialised in research and treatment in this field. She works as a lecturer in the Optometry programme and has her own specialised eye-care practice.
Mirjam is (inter)nationally recognised as a specialist in dry-eye problems. She has made it her central concern to conduct research, provide education and ultimately to improve (eye) care. This focus is reflected in the title of her dissertation: 'The role of primary healthcare in the management of work-related Dry Eye Disease in the Netherlands' (Cardiff University, Visual Science, Wales).
Her knowledge and insight is also being applied in other profession fields. In her experience, eye problems and visual functioning at work are underestimated. Her work ties in closely with that of Technology for healthcare innovations, the research group of Prof. Helianthe Kort, to which Mirjam is affiliated. She also collaborates with Prof. Paul Murphy (University of Waterloo, Canada).
