Rijk van den Broek

Researcher

Rijk van den Broek has been a researcher at the Journalism in Digital Transition research group since July 2022, where his work centers on the digitalization of journalism, with a particular focus on local and regional news. 

Rijk van den Broek is a PhD researcher studying the role of digital heritage collections in journalism. His doctoral research is a collaboration between Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen and is part of the Digital Humanities Artificial Intelligence Culture Heritageexternal link. This initiative focuses on developing new AI tools to enhance the searchability of collections from Dutch heritage institutions. 

Since 2022, Rijk has been a researcher at the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. He has also conducted research at the University of Amsterdam and the The Dutch Journalism Fund, specializing in media and communication studies. As a journalist, Rijk has gained experience at De Volkskrant, Blendle, and The Investigative Desk. 

Rijk earned his bachelor's degree in Journalism from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and went on to complete a master's in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Amsterdam, where he focused on the role of media in commemoration
