The neighborhood initiative Vollenhove Vooruit

In 2020, the Vollenhove Vooruit neighborhood initiative was launched and became part of the Regional Deal for Vital Neighborhoods. The Province of Utrecht has asked Utrecht University of Applied Sciences to conduct additional research into the experiences of children aged 3 to 12.

Objective

The aim of this research is to gain insight into the experiences of living in Vollenhove for this specific age group, and, from a broader perspective, to provide an overview of their pedagogical foundation and the resulting ‘quality of life’ (Schalock, 2004) in a neighborhood that is undergoing significant development.

Results

The project took place in 2024 and concluded with an exhibition for children, parents, and community residents. The research provides insight into what is important for children in such a community approach.

Duration

01 November 2023 - 01 November 2024

Approuch

Participatory research was conducted with the children in the neighborhood, capturing the quality of life they experienced through photo and graphic elicitation.

Impact

The outcomes of this research contribute to the comprehensive neighborhood approach Vollenhove Vooruit by listening to the children, as it is our children who raise the village.
