Marie-José Geenen has a degree in Andragology and a doctorate in Criminology, which was obtained with her study of the pedagogical alliance between group leaders and boys in a youth detention centre. Her work focuses on reflection and learning processes within a mandated framework.

Marie-José Geenen is committed to reflective professionalism. This is reflected, for example, by her role as the coordinator of the Reflection learning continuity pathway within the master's programme Forensic Social Professional. Within the Research group Working with Mandated Clients, Marie-José is engaged in research that lies at the intersection of reflection and the mandated framework.
